Pramod Vishwakarma, a criminal with a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head, who was absconding since 2018 in Raunapar police station area of Azamgarh district, has been arrested by the police from Surat district of Gujarat after seven years. Pramod is accused of making and selling illegal arms. According to the police, Pramod is a resident of Mohabbatpur village of Mubarakpur police station area a
nd the police had made several attempts to arrest him.
This incident is of 22 March 2018, when Pramod and his seven companions were making illegal arms in Devara Karimganj of Raunapar police station area. The police arrested four accused on the spot, while Pramod and his two companions fled from the spot. 10 pistols, four semi-manufactured pistols and weapons making equipment were recovered from the possession of the arrested accused.
After the incident, the police made several attempts to arrest Pramod, but he remained absconding. Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Police had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 on the arrest of Pramod on 23 August 2024. After this, on 7 January 2025, Deputy Inspector General of Police Azamgarh Range Sunil Kumar Singh announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for the arrest of Pramod.
As soon as the reward was announced, the police intensified their activities to arrest Pramod. Finally, on January 11, a joint team of STF Lucknow and Raunapar police station arrested Pramod near Suryansh Residency on Haldharu Road in Palsana police station area of Surat district of Gujarat.
After the arrest, Pramod was brought to Azamgarh from Surat on transit remand. The police produced him in the court and took a transit remand of 72 hours, so that further action could be taken.
SP Rural Chirag Jain said that
“In March 2018, a police raid was conducted on an illegal arms manufacturing factory in Raunapar police station area. Many accused were caught in this, but Pramod had absconded. We tried to arrest him several times, but he was not being caught. Then on the orders of DIG Sunil Kumar Singh, a reward of Rs 50,000 was announced. After this, STF Lucknow arrested him from Gujarat. Pramod is being sent to jail after getting remand from the court.”
