In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Azamgarh constituency in Uttar Pradesh witnessed a significant political contest.

Dharmendra Yadav from the Samajwadi Party (SP) emerged victorious, securing 508,239 votes, which accounted for 48.20% of the total votes cast.

He defeated Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirahua’ from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who received 347,204 votes (32.93%), and Mashhod Sabeeha Ansari from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), who garnered 179,839 votes (17.05%).

The voter turnout for this election was approximately 56.16%. Yadav’s victory margin was notable at 161,035 votes, indicating a shift in voter sentiment compared to previous elections.

This win marks a comeback for the SP after Akhilesh Yadav’s earlier success in 2019 and the BJP’s subsequent by-election win in 2022, highlighting the dynamic political landscape of the region.
