In a historical win, the BJP has won its first Lok Sabha seat in Kerala, with its candidate and actor-politician Suresh Gopi poised to win the Thrissur Lok Sabha seat with a large margin. The election has not been declared yet, but as of 3.30 pm, Gopi was ahead by a margin of 75,079 votes.
His nearest rival this time is CPI’s V S Sunilkumar who has so far polled 3,34,160 votes, with Congress’ K Muraleedharan third with 3,24,431 votes.
Speaking with reporters, Gopi said this was the first of many wins for the BJP in the state. He also said that the party can gain new ground starting with local body polls next.
Thrissur’s total voters are a little over 14.83 lakh. According to latest updates, 10,81,125 votes were polled.
The actor had lost from Thrissur in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and then in the 2021 state assembly polls.
