Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), which runs under the Ministry of Home Affairs reveals that Indians lost approximately ₹120.3 crore to digital arrest frauds during the first quarter of 2024, specifically from January to April. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also highlighted this alarming trend in his radio address, ‘Man Ki Baat’ on October 27, 2024, emphasizing the need for public awareness and vigilance against such scams, which involve fraudsters impersonating law enforcement officials to extort money from victims under false pretense.
