Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., has proposed that transgender people be required to use the bathroom corresponding with their sex assigned at birth in the Capitol building. Mace has said that this is in direct response to Representative-elect Sarah McBride, D-Del., becoming the first transgender woman elected to serve in Congress. McBride has responded to the resolution on X, describing it as a “culture war” manufactured to distract from real issues such as health care and housing costs. House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said that he would work to “accommodate the needs of every single person.”
