उदयपुर शहर में शुक्रवार सुबह सरकारी स्कूल में 10वीं कक्षा के दो छात्रों के बीच झगड़े के बाद एक ने दूसरे पर चाकू से वार कर दिया। घटना को लेकर शहर में माहौल तनावपूर्ण हो गया। लोगों ने प्रदर्शन कर बाजार बंद करवा दिए। इस दौरान धर्म स्थलों पर पत्थर फेंकने के साथ ही कई जगहों पर तोड़फोड़ की गई। दो जगहों पर वाहनों में आग लगा दी तो चार अन्य जगहों पर वाहनों को नुकसान पहुंचाया गया। पुलिस ने स्थिति काबू में करने के लिए पहले लाठियां भांजी फिर लाठीचार्ज भी करना पड़ा। कलक्टर ने शहर में धारा-144 लागू कर दी। आरोपी छात्र को हिरासत में लिया, वहीं उसके पिता को गिरफ्तार किया है। घटना से आक्रोशित हिंदू संगठनों ने अस्पताल परिसर से बाहर निकलकर चेतक सर्कल, हाथीपोल, अश्विनी बाजार, बापू बाजार, घंटाघर, बड़ा बाजार, मुखर्जी चौक आदि क्षेत्रों में बाजार बंद करवाए। सरदारपुरा, हॉस्पिटल रोड पर 6 से अधिक वाहनों को आग लगा दी। करीब दस वाहनों में तोड़फोड़ की गई। बाजारों में भी दो धर्म स्थल, दो मॉल और कई बंद दुकानों के बाहर तोड़फोड़ की गई। भीड़ को काबू में करने के लिए भारी संख्या में पुलिस बल तैनात किया गया। इसी तरह से शहर के आयड़ क्षेत्र में भी तोड़फोड़ और प्रदर्शन किया गया।

The atmosphere in the city became tense due to the incident. People protested and closed the markets. During this, along with throwing stones at religious places, vandalism was done at many places. Vehicles were set on fire at two places and vehicles were damaged at four other places. To control the situation, the police first used lathis and then had to resort to lathicharge. The collector imposed Section 144 in the city. The accused student was taken into custody, while his father has been arrested. Hindu organizations, enraged by the incident, came out of the hospital premises and closed the markets in areas like Chetak Circle, Hathipol, Ashwini Bazaar, Bapu Bazaar, Ghantaghar, Bada Bazaar, Mukherjee Chowk etc. More than 6 vehicles were set on fire on Sardarpura, Hospital Road. About ten vehicles were vandalized. In the markets also, vandalism was done outside two religious places, two malls and many closed shops. A large number of police force was deployed to control the crowd. Similarly, vandalism and protests took place in the Aiyad area of the city.
